As a business, we place an emphasis on data to help guide our decision-making to assist us in identifying trends in Impact Investments and how we can develop appropriate solutions for our clients.
Each month – around the 10th – we will attempt to draw data from channels including Google Analytics, Google Trends and our social media channels and analyse these to understand what is occupying the minds of impact-focused organisations.
Based on our data, the below are currently trending topics:
Enterprise and Supplier Development (ESD)
We are big believer that Enterprise and Supplier Development (ESD) funding are closely aligned with Impact Investment or Sustainability-linked goals.
The below search words or phrases are producing above normal traffic:
- “ESD Funding”
- “ESD Funds”
Considering that we are coming up to the end of the calendar year, this would make sense. On one hand organisations with December year ends are looking to deploy their ESD funding.
Similarly, many of the smaller SMEs are looking to access Enterprise Development grants or looking for ways to break into supply chains through Supplier Development initiatives.
Our most popular blog post on the website in the last 30 days was our “ESD is getting a bad name” post which unpacked some recent research from the Gordon Institute of Business Science (GIBS).
The Water Crisis is front of mind:
Without question the water crisis is an area of focus for South Africans as water interruptions are becoming more common as aging infrastructure is not maintained.
A worrying trend has been reported by Daily Investor where they talk about the “Water Mafia” targeting wastewater works, sewerage systems and other storage solutions to ensure access to lucrative long-term contracts.
Our second most popular blog post was part of our “Water Worth Watching” series which looked at: “The Intersection of AI and Water Supply: Enhancing Sustainability and Efficiency”
We also saw quite a lot of interest in a recent blog post we did entitled: “Leveraging ESD Funding to Address South Africa’s Infrastructure Challenges”
Tackling Period Poverty through Blossom Care Solutions
As a team, we are passionate about supporting our partners from Blossom Care Solutions who have developed an innovative model for tackling Period Poverty (#PeriodPoverty) while incorporating entrepreneurship models which empower young women to become business owners.
Incorporating a combination of both stakeholder education and the distribution of sanitary products, this is a firm favourite for organisations looking to deploy ESD or Socio-Economic Development (SED) funding into the healthcare sector.
We love celebrating our successes here and we have recently partnered with a corporate in the logistics sector who has committed to providing over 2300 young ladies with access to sanitary products in 2025. This investment will positively impact young ladies in Western Cape and KZN and helps them achieve their sustainability and ESG goals.
